FAQ
How would you describe the central mission of your work and this retreat?
I believe people are longing for authentic experiences and personal growth. Bali is unique to offer us cultural traditions that honor village life and a daily reverence for God. Many of us carry around too much stress in our bodies. Balinese massage with optimize our well being. Every activity and thought we’ll present is about cultivating aliveness with time to stretch your soul.
What does Eat Pray Love have to do with Wakeup?
Most of our adventures and lodging are centered in Ubud. The cultural and arts Center of Bali and where Elizabeth stayed and Julia Roberts was filmed. Click here for an article I wrote on The Spiritual Journey of Eat Pray Love.
Do I need a Passport?
By all means. Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 (six) months as from the date of entry into Indonesia. Make sure you double check the expiration date. Our 10 day retreat is land only, so it’s wise to note what cancellation policies are imposed by your airline or their agents.
Do I need a Visa?
Yes, but you can get a tourist visa upon arrival for a maximum visit of 30 days. The cost is $25. They call it Visa on Arrival or (VOA) Check out www.bali-expat-business.com for updated visa info
Do I need any shots or immunizations?
No, there are no compulsory vaccinations.
What kind of clothing do I bring? Remember that “you are not what you wear”. We’ll be more specific in our follow up package, but think… casual summer clothes. Don’t bring your best clothes, and do bring some of your worst that you might want to leave behind. I have found the climate is rough on clothes. You might even find yourself in a new sarong. Bring your oldest bathing suit and do expect some rain. We are in the tropics.
Explain the time zone difference? When you plan your flight note that our dates are not departure dates from the USA , but land- in Bali dates. If you’re flying from the US, you will lose a day, so be particularly careful when you depart and arrive in Bali. Depending upon the time of year, East Coast time is 12 hours difference and West coast time 9 hours difference. You’ll be tired when you arrive, but you’ll be resting the first day and get a massage. What is the Caste Away Child program? If you’ve ever wanted to adopt a child from your heart, this is your chance. Our program focuses on little girls, because in a caste society they are the first to be left out, particularly around education. The only middle man is the village priest who will make sure the money goes where it’s suppose to. Please know that you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to. It’s an opportunity for loving.
What about the Bali Airport? Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) is just south of Kuta. The airport is well-served with international flights. You’ll be coming into the international terminal. It has a hotel-booking counter, a left-luggage room, several moneychangers, an expensive duty-free shop and many souvenir shops, ATMs and some fast-food places. You’ll find English speaking help if you need it. It is not so nice by some standards, but as soon as you leave the terminal you’ll see a smiling Balinese with a sign that says… Wake Up in Bali! waiting for you. Just know, that we think the party begins when you arrive.
Will I receive a Follow-up Package from you? Oh yes, with lots of phone numbers , packing ideas and checklists . We’ll explain the money and credit card use etc. With this package you will be “good before you go!”
Can I come to Bali before the retreat or stay longer there after the retreat? Oh yes, and we’ll be glad to help if we can. www.balitourismboard.org is a great site if you plan to stay in Bali after the retreat.
